A steel with carbon fraction less than C S = 0.76% is called a hypoeutectoid steel. It is located left of the eutectoid point in the diagram. Steels with a larger fraction of carbon are called hypereutectoid steels. The heat affected zone (HAZ) is an important concept as it is the region in which the microstructure has changed (regions B–D).
